There is a waiting list of about twenty-five enterprises that plan to occupy approximately 2 lakh square feet in the future textile cluster at Sukhpuri, Burhanpur, according to the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) established to oversee the cluster’s development.
According to the SPV, Burhanpur Sukhpuri Textile Cluster Association, they have already obtained a portion of the 42 lakh sq.ft. total saleable space from over 250 enterprises, and the cluster is awaiting an additional demand for almost 2 lakh sq ft from about 25 industries.
An estimated 40,000 power looms are in operation in Burhanpur, a city known for its power looms, and they are housed in homes, small businesses, and unorganised enterprises.
Burhanpur Sukhpuri Textile Cluster Association director Prashant Shorff said, “All the saleable area is taken up by industries and we have a waiting for around 2 lakh sq ft from industries. There is a huge demand from industries for taking up space in cluster as this will help in creating an ecosystem and provide a platform to small scale industries to expand their reach.”
The Burhanpur Sukhpuri Textile Cluster Association stated that as many as 250 firms have expressed interest in investing in the proposed Sukhpuri textile cluster, with an expected investment from these sectors ranging from Rs 350 to Rs 400 crore.
According to the SPV, levelling is now taking place at the Sukhpuri cluster. Under the state government’s new cluster policy outlined in the MSME Rule 2021, the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Department has designated a roughly 63-hectare undeveloped land piece in Sukhpuri village in Burhanpur for the development of a textile cluster. Three textile clusters—Mohammadpura, Nimbola, and Sukhpuri—have been proposed for Burhanpur.
