Final preparations are underway for the ‘Make in Odisha Conclave 2025’, which is set for 28th and 29th January in Bhubaneswar. Debabrata Ghosh, Director and Marketing Head of Oerlikon, one of the biggest manufacturers of textile machines worldwide, gave a speech prior to the event and offered his thoughts on Odisha’s potential to lead the world in the production of textiles made of synthetic fibres.
Ghosh emphasised that since Eastern India hasn’t yet had a sizable integrated textile plant, this step would establish Odisha as a pioneer in the field.
Ghosh stated that he is in Odisha because he firmly believes the state has the potential to become the next global leader in the synthetic fibre-based textile industry. He also mentioned that Indian Oil and MCTI have partnered to set up a spinning plant in Odisha, which will lay the groundwork for the fibre-based industry and support the development of government initiatives in the region.
Ghosh said that this initiative would position Odisha as a leader in the textile sector, given that Eastern India currently lacks a major integrated plant for the industry. He pointed out that Odisha has several advantages, such as access to ports, abundant mineral resources, and a cost-effective labor force. With over 50% of Eastern India’s population residing in the state, Odisha stands to gain significantly from such an industrial boost.
He also highlighted the promising future for Odisha, particularly in textiles and other industries, thanks to its expanding infrastructure and business-friendly policies.
