The Labour Advisory Committee (LAC) of Cambodia missed its provisional deadline of deciding the hike in the minimum wage from the current US $ 128 per month, as the employer and trade union representative could not decide on a common number to present to the Labour Ministry. Representing more than 700,000 garment workers, the trade unions put forward a figure of US $ 168 whereas the factory owners proposed an increase of 3.75 per cent. The country’s factories supply apparel to global retailer giants like H&M, Inditex, Primark, C&A, and Topshop and account for 80 per cent of the country’s total exports.
