US-based retailer of casual luxury apparel and accessories Abercrombie & Fitch, which has been struggling to retain growth in its home market, is reportedly planning to enter India.
According to media reports, the retailer that has shuttered about 400 outlets since 2010 is seeing India as a potential market to revive itself.
Abercrombie & Fitch is reportedly in the initial stage of talks with various Indian firms for the venture. If reports turn out to be true, the retailer will join the long list of other global brands that are planning standalone outlets in the Indian market.
The fashion brand is likely to bring brick and mortar stores of Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister to India and award its e-commerce rights to Indian companies (including Myntra).
However, neither the clothing retailer nor any Indian firm has given any confirmation on the same. “There’s no truth to the rumour and there are no current plans to open A&F or Hollister stores in India. We have no comments beyond this,” an Abercrombie spokesperson told ET.
At present, Abercrombie & Fitch runs around 700 stores in the US and additional 200 stores in Europe, Asia and Middle East markets.
If reported talks result in a productive outcome, the actual Abercrombie & Fitch or Hollister stores may come to India sometime next year.
