Major online retailer, Amazon, has announced that it will add over 1,10,000 seasonal positions to its operations network in cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Chennai in advance of the holiday season.
The company has employed about 1,900 PWDs (people with disabilities) in addition to thousands of women, according to the celebration statement.
“Amazon’s pledge to generate more than 1 lakh seasonal job openings throughout India is a praiseworthy measure to support the country’s labour force throughout the holiday season. The company’s hiring of women and people with disabilities for these positions is positive, and it shows that it values the welfare of its employees by funding programs that assist their health, safety, and education. “We applaud Amazon and other corporations for their efforts to create inclusive job opportunities and maintain worker welfare,” stated Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment.
The e-commerce giant claimed to have launched a number of initiatives, including health camps for truck drivers in strategic areas, quality education through its Pratidhi scholarship program, and designated resting places for delivery associates throughout Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru under project Ashray.
“During this holiday season, we are dedicated to offering consumers in every viable pin-code in India prompt and dependable deliveries,” Abhinav Singh, VP of Operations at Amazon India, stated adding, “To meet this goal, we have hired over 1.1 lakh additional people to strengthen our fulfilment and logistics network and ensure we can handle the increased demand seamlessly.”
