Suta’s first flagship store is now at Namma, Bengaluru. The new store is located in Indiranagar’s shopping district and houses the womenswear specialist’s full array of clothing and lifestyle goods. It offers a large variety of sarees, as well as ethnic and fusion clothing for ladies and a modest menswear section.
The store elicits traditional aesthetics with furnishings of natural wood that add a sense of luxury which is kept fresh by the angular use of space. It also features seating sections to enable shoppers to browse at their leisure and natural wood furnishings.
Suta, which means ‘thread’, was founded by Sujata and Taniya Biswas with the intention of promoting ancient Indian handcraft processes and modernising traditional designs for a wide audience. The brand specialises in sarees and its designs are intended to mix elegance with wearability, according to the designers.
Sujata in conversation with a reporter mentioned about the city’s young vivacious buzz in the air and welcoming smile by the Bengaluru crowd which prompted them to open a store in the city. She also mentioned that the city was chosen because of the nearby artisanal clusters and the city’s century-old tradition of arts and crafts.
The launch was graced by renowned actors and influencers including Ragini Prajwal, Madhuri Braganza, Shwetha R Prasad, Kavya Shetty and many more.
Sujata points out that they made a conscious choice to keep the prices low. “We ourselves prefer to choose sarees that are not outrageously costly. And it ought to be affordable for every girl.”
