Delhi-based R.V Exports (India), a buying office cum Import Company, is looking at venturing into the South African market. The buying office, as of now, caters principally for the Canadian market with retailers like Target-Canada, Giant Tiger and Rossy, to mention a few.
While talking to Apparel Online, Ravi Verma, one of the founders of the company shared that since the US and Europe markets are still slow, they are planning to explore newer markets. “We are talking to a few retailers and wholesalers in South Africa. I am very optimistic that we’ll be able to do very good business in this country,” said Ravi, who has a sourcing office in Canada by the name of Street Legal.
R.V Exports deals primarily in knitted garments which comprise almost 80 percent of its sourcing volume, covering all three segments-ladies, kids and men’s wear. “We deal in huge quantities and besides India, we are sourcing garments from Bangladesh, Cambodia and Vietnam.” Talking about their most preferred sourcing destination, Ravi says that Bangladesh is undoubtedly the most cost effective manufacturing base and the added edge for the Canadian market is that they enjoy duty free exports to that market. “We are sourcing products from Bangladesh since the last 13 years; the country has evolved greatly in terms of design and quality. When I say quality, I mean that they use imported yarns because of which the feel and look of the garment is really nice and it still offers very competitive prices to boot. On the contrary, back in India, Tirupur is getting more expensive by the day.”
