A significant step in India’s sustainable fashion movement has been reached with the launch of the SU.RE website and the SU.RE Sustainable Supply Chain Directory by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI). The SU.RE (Sustainable Resolution) initiative is a voluntary commitment to sustainability in the apparel industry.
While the directory includes more than 600 certified vendors in important areas like fabric makers, recyclers, sustainable packaging specialists, and certification agencies, the website acts as a holistic platform to support the Indian textile industry’s shift to sustainable practices.
For brands, manufacturers, and stakeholders, the SU.RE-Sustainable Resolution website provides information, tools, and a collaborative environment. Through news stories and case studies, it offers insights into the sustainability initiatives of leading companies in the sector.
The Open Source Supply Chain Directory facilitates easy sourcing and the exchange of best practices by matching businesses with eco-friendly suppliers who specialise in textiles, trims, manufacturing, packaging, and recycling. Through events and activities devoted to sustainability, the platform also promotes open conversation and knowledge sharing.
The SU.RE Sustainable Supply Chain Directory, created in partnership with the Global Alliance for Textile Sustainability (GATS) and the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), is a one-stop resource to promote accessibility, innovation, and knowledge exchange in sustainable sourcing.
It facilitates a smooth shift to more environmentally friendly production methods by simplifying relationships between fashion firms and environmentally concerned suppliers. Given that the Indian sustainable fashion market is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 45 per cent, from US $ 309 million (Rs. 2,700 crore) in FY ’24 to US $ 2.86 billion (Rs. 25,000 crore) in FY ’30, this initiative is especially important.
Since 2019, SU.RE, an initiative of CMAI in collaboration with Reliance Brands Limited (RBL) and backed by the UN in India, has spearheaded industry-wide initiatives to support ethical production, eco-friendly materials, and responsible sourcing.
