Surat, India is going to host a direct sourcing expo for man-made fabrics, under the title ‘Source India’, from August 13.
To be held as a two-day affair, this event will witness over 100 fabric importers and garment manufacturers from across West Asia, Africa and South America gathering at the Diamond City to participate at a buyer-seller meet.
The Union Government of India, in collaboration with the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC), decided to hold such an event in Surat for the very first time, to promote the city’s home-grown fabrics as an emerging brand. In India, the city of Surat has come up as a leading hub for synthetic fabric production, particularly for polyester filament fabrics. Here the daily production of fabrics is around 4 crore metres.
According to SRTEPC, around 35 per cent of the fabrics manufactured in Surat is utilised in making of clothes for men, kids and women. Most of the fabrics produced here go to buyers in Delhi, from where they are distributed among readymade garment makers across India as well as abroad.
The ‘Source India’ programme was first held in Mumbai in 2010.
