
According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh fetched US $ 22.25 billion in 11 months of 2014, as compared to US $ 21.22 billion for the previous year. Export earnings will start to grow in the first quarter of the next year, as a number of new factories will contribute to the export basket despite several challenges faced by the apparel industry. The knitwear export during the period stood at US $11 billon with a rise of 6.723 per cent from the previous year’s US $10.4 billon. Woven products earned US $11.15billon growing at 3.05 per cent as the previous year’s figure was US $10.8 billon, EPB data showed. A good number of factories have faced music from the Accord and Alliance inspection over non-compliance issues regarding workers safety, causing adverse impact on the export earnings. Bangladesh government has set an export target of $26.9bn from the RMG sector for the fiscal year 2014-15.
