Minister of State (MoS) Textiles Pabitra Margherita told the Rajya Sabha this week that the Central Government’s National Technical Textiles Mission wants to export technical textiles valued at US $ 10 billion. Textile goods and materials utilised largely for their technical performance in a variety of high-end industries are known as technical textiles.
The mission has four main components. The first is research, innovation, and development, which has been allocated Rs. 1,000 crore (approx US $ 120 million). The next elements are export promotion (Rs. 10 crore, approx US $ 1.2 million), education, training, and skill development (Rs. 400 crore, approx US $ 48 million), and market development and promotion (Rs. 50 crore, approx US $ 6 million).
Technical textiles are a rapidly growing sector in the country, presenting significant growth opportunities across various industries, including apparel. These textiles offer alternatives to traditional materials in applications spanning sectors like roads, railways, construction, agriculture, medical, hygiene, automobile, defense, space, and industrial safety, as stated by the minister.
The Minister further emphasised that the growth and widespread use of technical textiles will play a key role in enhancing the nation’s infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and industrial development.
