World Cotton Day is being celebrating today (7 October) across the globe. The theme for this year is “There’s more to cotton than you think.”
In India, Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) is organising Virtual Interactive Cotton Webinar. Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Textiles, Commerce and Industry will inaugurate the webinar and interact with the textiles and apparel industry.
CITI’s Cotton Development & Research Association (CDRA) has also completed 50 years of its services rendered to the Indian cotton economy by working hard.
Pratibha Syntex, India’s one of the most sustainable apparel manufacturers, also recalls its organic journey – Vasudha Primo on World Cotton Day.
Vasudha Primo, extra-long staple organic cotton fibre developed indigenously by a set of farmers in tribal belt of MP, India, is developed following principles of Regenerative Organic Cotton and sustainable development goals of United Nations.
Originated in the Petlawad region, the fibre is 14 per cent thinner, 26 per cent longer and 30 per cent stronger than the other cotton fibres present in the market.
Pratibha Syntex incepted an agriculture arm Vasudha in 1999. Under the project, around 35,000 farmers are associated with Pratibha Syntex.
The company aims to build a stronger and reliable network with our vision to become global leader in sustainable textile products and practices, with a team of passionate individuals Pratibha will achieve its goal.
With uplifting socio economic status of the farmers, Vasudha generated a sustainable fibre, which is biodegradable and consumes 91 per cent less water, while growing.
Since it is an organic fibre, there is no use of chemical fertilisers or insecticides in the cultivation. This eventually is responsible for strengthening soil health. Initiatives like construction of cattle water shed were also taken towards animal husbandry.
The garments made out of this fibre are enriched with natural softness. The fabric is skin friendly and retains its appearance after wash. No pilling and highly durable fibre is best for tees and tops.
“The uniqueness of the Vasudha Primo is that while other competitive fibres just focus on the length of the fibre, it focuses equally on the quality of the fibre and quality of life of the farmers who grew it,” said Shreyaskar Chaudhary, MD, Pratibha Syntex.
