Amidst falling Japanese imports of apparel in October ’20 – as it fell 20 per cent compared to October ’19 – India has somehow improved its performance on Y-o-Y basis in the Japanese market.
India shipped 1.44 billion yen (US $ 13.95 million) of apparels to Japan in October ’20, marking 34.81 per cent surge from the same month of 2019.
Of total exports, the share of knitted garments was 521.16 million yen (US $ 5.04 million), upping 59.84 per cent, while woven garments contributed 920.11 million yen (US $ 8.91 million), growing 23.82 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
India was one of the few countries which increased its exports to Japan in October ’20 on yearly note, while countries such as China, Bangladesh and Vietnam amongst others fell drastically.
However, on M-o-M basis as compared to September ’20, Indian apparel exports in October ’20 were down by 27 per cent.
It’s worth noting here that Japanese import from India valued 1.97 billion yen (US $ 18.77 million) in the month of September ’20 which was around 523 million yen (US $ 4.82 million) more than the revenues earned in October ’20.
