West Bengal Government has come up with interesting schemes to attract fabric manufacturing in the state.
The companies, following specific terms of the State Government, will get a confirmed order of fabric from the State Government.
Information issued by the State’s Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Textiles says that the state planned to purchase 50 per cent of the required uniform fabrics for at least 3 years from the units that will be set up under an expression of interest issued by the department.
As the state provides uniforms to all students up to 8th standard, it requires around 6 crore metres of woven fabric every year.
The State Government is promoting spinning, weaving, knitting and processing units and fabric requirement can be increased in future as a uniform for hospitals and the hospitality sector may also be added in this category in the future.
The State Government is also offering various incentives to the companies that wish to invest in West Bengal and it has specific schemes like ‘Banlashree’ offering capital and interest subsidies. It also has New Power Loom Incentive Policy.
Notably, Kolkata is the leading textile hub of West Bengal where many branded knitted garments, especially innerwear and workwear, companies are growing aggressively.
