Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Textiles Piyush Goyal has said that Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi wants textile sector to be strong and become an even bigger support for the economy.
The PM envisions a synergy between Commerce and Industry and Textiles sectors and that is perhaps the reason that Piyush has been given the charge of this ministry also.
The Minister of State for Textiles Darshana Vikram Jardosh also took her charge today.
While addressing the media after taking charge as Minister of Textiles, Piyush Goyal said that the Government wants to promote Brand India and Indian textiles, which earlier played an important role in building brand India, to again play a key role.

Praising his predecessor Smriti Irani, Piyush Goyal said that she has done lot of good work in the MoT during her tenure and as a result, its profile has increased manifolds in recent years.
He said that textiles is a big sector for employment, and so through this sector, the Government will try to support the income of all the people employed in this sector, especially women, in a big way.
The Minister also said that he will ensure that this sector can be further improved and exports can be boosted. He expressed confidence that there will be a big growth in this sector.
The MoS, Darshana Vikram Jardosh said that PM has given her this big opportunity and she will work under the leadership of PM and guidance of Piyush Goyal to help grow and promote the textiles sector and make it a key sector for ‘Make in India’.
