SGS India recently inaugurated its state-of-the-art laboratory and office in Bangalore, located close to the Electronic City. Spread in over 30,000 sq. ft. the facility, which houses multiple laboratories and serves as a south regional hub for inspections and audit services in India, was opened by Paul House, Managing Director, SGS India & Sri Lanka. Bangalore continues to be an important hub of readymade garment exports to European and US markets, and this latest addition in the SGS network of laboratories, clearly demonstrates the increasing demand for consumer product testing services in the region.

Product safety, quality and compliance requirements of REACH and CPSIA regulations have increased the need for chemical test parameters in the textile supply chain. The new state-of-the-art facility is fully equipped to address these restricted substance requirements as well as sustainability management in the textile and apparel industry. The laboratory adheres to international standards and best practices in quality, health, safety and environment. The facility has been designed to be efficient with special emphasis on work flow movement and turnaround time management for faster report deliveries. It is also a benchmark in meeting SGS’s commitment towards corporate sustainability with rainwater harvesting, building management system, fire management systems and dedicated Zero Discharge Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) enabling recycling and reusing of water in lab. The facility will also offer inspection and certification services for textile, food, environmental, agricultural, minerals, electrical & electronics and industrial products.
Speaking on the occasion, Paul House shared, “Our new laboratory and facility in Bangalore will help us to offer world class services to our clients and set a new benchmark in the Testing, Inspection, Verification and Certification space, helping us further to achieve our goal of being the best service organization in the world.” Dr. Helmut Krause, Deputy Vice President, Global Softlines and Global Head for Restricted Substances Services, also graced the occasion and made a technical seminar on restricted substances and environmental compliance in apparel industry. The event had an overwhelming response and support of industry with over 200 guests present. The seminar was followed by a very interactive session with the audience who came up with various queries related to chemical analysis in textiles.
