MK Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has said that the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (SIPCOT) will set up a mega textile park in Virudhunagar district.
He also said that the 1,000-acre textile park will be under the Central Government’s PM Mega Investment Textiles Parks (MITRA) scheme and a detailed project report will be prepared soon.
After laying the foundation stone for the International Furniture Park in Thoothukudi, he said that the State Government is offering full support to promote the textile industry.
“Our ultimate goal is to ensure growth in all the districts. The Government, which took over about nine months ago, had already hosted three investor conferences–two in Chennai and one in Coimbatore. These have attracted huge investment across the industries,” the Chief Minister said.
Attributing the overall growth across the state to the ‘Dravidian model’, the Chief Minister hoped more job opportunities would prevent migration of youth to other states.
With textile and apparel hubs like Coimbatore, Tirupur, Salem and Erode, Tamil Nadu is one of the leading textile states in India.
