
Under scanner for security reasons that forced the Bangladesh Government to sign a Tk 732-million deal with the British firm, Redline Aviation Security Limited to improve security scenario in face of mounting trade losses, following prohibition on direct air shipment from Bangladesh, imposed by the United Kingdom, the security revamp at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport has reportedly impressed the British Government, which is reported to have expressed satisfaction over the improved security measures taken by the Sheikh Hasina Government.

According to media reports, British Prime Minister David Cameron has reportedly written to Sheikh Hasina recently, expressing his satisfaction. As of now, the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry is expecting withdrawal of the embargo by this month.
It may be mentioned here that earlier on March 8, the UK government underlined that its assessments of the Shahjalal International Airport found that some international security requirements were not being met, as a consequence of which the ban was imposed. However, considering the effect of the air embargo on Bangladesh’s trade, the Sheikh Hasina Government has decided to put world class security service contractors in place at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Earlier, Australia too imposed embargo on air freight from Bangladesh effective from December 19, 2015, due to security reasons which left the garment manufacturers in Bangladesh worried.
