
The Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC) has appointed Dr Romesh Khajuria, former Chairman of both the WWEPC and the Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, as its Ambassador.
The announcement was made by WWEPC Vice Chairman Harmeet Bhalla during his address to the General House at the Council’s 58th Annual General Body Meeting in New Delhi. Bhalla stated that Dr Khajuria’s appointment had been approved at the Council’s Committee of Administration meeting on 10th September. He explained that the new role has been created to help popularise the programmes of the Council and to promote woollen exports in India’s hill states.
Bhalla highlighted Dr Khajuria’s long-standing contribution to the woollen industry, noting his tenure as Chairman of WWEPC from April 2022 to April 2025, his earlier role as Vice Chairman from April 2020 to April 2022, and three terms as a member of the Council’s Committee of Administration. He said that Dr Khajuria had made a significant contribution to the industry during this period.
Following the announcement, Dr Khajuria expressed his appreciation to the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Committee of Administration members and all those associated with WWEPC for the nomination and the honour conferred on him. He also acknowledged his previous leadership role at CEPC under the Ministry of Textiles.
Dr Khajuria further recognised the support provided by the Government of India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh and officials from the Ministries of Textiles and Commerce & Industry, for addressing issues faced by the woollen sector.
