The local yarn manufacturers of Indonesia have approached the government demanding a temporary safeguard duty to be imposed on imported yarn products. The cheaply imported yarn products are said to be damaging the market for locally made products. The rising demand of textile and garment products in the recent years is being catered by the imported yarns as the overseas yarn producers dump their products on the Indonesian market and sell them at lower prices because of weak global demand.
The local downstream textile companies are expected to turn to local yarn manufacturers if this temporary safeguard duty is imposed.
