Hyderabad-based fashion and textile designer Shravan Kummar will exhibit his collection based on handlooms from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh at the upcoming NATA and TANA summit.
The first exhibition will be at the NATA (North American Telugu Association) Convention in Dallas, from 30th June to 2nd July followed by TANA (Telugu Association of North America) Conference, in Philadelphia, from 7th-9th July.
The collection showcases Pochampally ikats, silks and cottons from Gadwal, Narayanpet, Mangalagiri and Venkatagiri, khadi from Metpally, silks from Ramappa, linen ikat saris, saris with Gollabhama motifs among other categories of textile and handwork.
Moreover, the silhouettes are designed to appeal to the Indian as well as the international market featuring Saris, lehengas, jackets, trousers, wrap pants and jackets.
The designer said, “I will be taking approximately 175 pieces of handlooms from the Telugu States with me. We plan to involve the next generation, aged 18 to 25, to showcase our handlooms so that we encourage more young people to incorporate Indian handlooms into their wardrobes.”
