Quilting, weather done in a folksy, sporty or tessellation-inspired way, is being utilized for presenting splurge-worthy pieces with a super stylish and polished quotient. The trend of quilted clothing is being pushed to the front line with the magnificent presence shown on the runways of S/S’14 and A/W’14-15. Quilting has marked itself for being not only a major winter outerwear trend but also a primary summer style. In the S/S’14 collections, Acne Studios showcased a heavily padded and quilted leather motorcycle jacket, on the other hand, Balmain unveiled its black quilted leather dresses and Mulberry added a touch of sparkle to its quilted white floral pieces by attaching tiny sequins on it. A/W’14-15 also witnessed tessellated, geometric, argyle and irregular patterns applied skilfully on cropped/quilted bombers, jackets, dresses and bottoms by Dior, James Long, Moschino and Neil Barrett. Providing upmarket and stylish 3D surface appeal with a progressive look has made quilting a trend that has evolved for the better with years passing by.
