Designers look past the conventional to knead fashion from the most unexpected species – the eccentric insect. Owing to this bizarre inspiration, anatomies of dragonflies, bees and even cockroaches have been embellished and printed on couture ensembles.
The recent season of Fall had miniscule bugs sprawling chaotically on boxy tops at Lanvin as opposed to precise trails of insects on dresses and skirts at Tory Burch’s. In chorus were designers like Dries Van Noten and Thakoon, where the former preferred squirming scorpions and lizards for brooches and the latter focused on dainty dragonfly motifs.
A trend for Fall 2014 will stretch itself from simple print patterns to intricate anatomical motifs and almost life-like, exquisite embellishments.
