Strengthening its already reckoned supply chain further, Inditex, the Spanish quick response retailer has chosen to tag its garments with RFID all over the world. Unveiled during the company’s annual general meeting recently, this development would allow Inditex to individually track and follow garments, from the moment the items leave the logistics platforms until they are sold to shoppers in store and fortify its already rapid supply chain. “The implementation of this next-generation technology is one of the most significant changes in how the group’s stores operate,” said Pablo Isla, Chairman and CEO, Inditex.
Inditex would be utilizing Tyco’s Sensormatic dual technology RFID/Acousto-Magnetic (RFID/AM) hard tags and detachers at the point-of-sale (POS). Tyco would also be managing Inditex’s tag recirculation program through a cost-effective and environmentally sound approach that allows re-use of RFID/AM tags. With this solution, Inditex is taking advantage of the benefits of RFID-based inventory visibility while controlling shrinkage with robust anti-shoplifting AM technology.
The Tyco solution is currently deployed in 700 Zara stores across 22 countries and is recognized for delivering significant value to the Inditex business. Inditex aims to have the project operational in all Zara stores worldwide by 2016, with plans to introduce technology to all chains afterwards.
