American outdoor footwear brand Timberland has returned to the Indian market in collaboration with the e-retail Reliance platform, Ajio. The US-based brand now features on the online catalogue of Ajio.
The footwear brand had to previously withdraw from the Indian market in 2015 as it was faced with a major competitive crisis in the local markets and a fallout with fellow Indian competitor brand Woodland. The two footwear brands had similar logo elements of a tree which resulted in a conflict causing litigation over intellectual property as the brands belonged to the same industry.
Reliance Industries on Monday said that Ajio, the fashion e-tail platform, is currently expanding its portfolio by adding brands like ASOS, H&M and Timberland, along with other new brands. Timberland and Reliance Retail had established a distribution and licensing arrangement earlier in 2009.
