
The bed linen market is anticipated to maintain an upward consumption trend over the next ten years, driven by the growing demand for knitted or crocheted textiles and bed linen in Asia-Pacific, says a report from IndexBox.
The market is expected to slow down and grow at a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of +1.0 per cent between 2024 and 2035, reaching a volume of 302 thousand tonnes by the end of that year. In terms of value, the market is expected to grow at a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of +1.8 per cent between 2024 and 2035. By the end of 2035, the market is expected to be worth US $ 2.2 billion (at nominal wholesale prices).
With a combined 70 per cent share of global consumption in 2024, China (55 thousand tonnes), India (32 thousand tonnes), and Pakistan (103 thousand tonnes) had the largest consumption quantities. With combined shares of 19 per cent, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam trailed considerably.
The nations with the largest market values in 2024 were China (US $ 350 million), India (US $ 236 million), and Pakistan (US $ 549 million), which together accounted for 64 per cent of the market. Japan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand, which collectively accounted for another 22 per cent, trailed considerably.
The production of knitted or crocheted bed linen in Asia-Pacific decreased marginally to 432 thousand tonnes in 2024, a -2.4 per cent decrease from 2023 data. In value terms, production of bed linen of knitted or crocheted textiles fell to US $ 2.6 billion in 2024 estimated at export price. The three nations that produced the most in 2024 were China (138 thousand tonnes), India (33 thousand tonnes), and Pakistan (196 thousand tonnes), accounting for 85 per cent of the total production.
Purchases of knitted or crocheted bed linen overseas finally increased in 2024, reaching 22,000 tonnes for the first time since 2021, reversing a two-year downward trend. Imports of knitted or crocheted textiles, including bed linen, totalled US $ 166 million in 2024.
At 12 thousand tonnes, or around 56 per cent of all imports in 2024, Japan leads the world in imports. With a combined 31 per cent share of total imports, South Korea (2.1 thousand tonnes), Malaysia (1.8 thousand tonnes), Australia (1.6 thousand tonnes), and Taiwan (Chinese) (1.4 thousand tonnes) came in far behind. Singapore (498 tonnes) and Vietnam (585 tonnes) accounted for a small portion of all imports.
With 65 per cent of all imports, Japan (US $ 107 million) is the Asia-Pacific region’s largest market for imported bed linens and knitted or crocheted textiles. Australia (US $ 14 million), with an 8.6 per cent share of overall imports, came in second place. South Korea, with an 8.4 per cent share, came next.
The largest exports, accounting for 98 per cent of total exports, came from China (83 thousand tonnes) and Pakistan (94 thousand tonnes). China (US $ 518 million) and Pakistan (US $ 487 million) were the two nations in Asia-Pacific that supplied the most bed linens and knitted or crocheted textiles in terms of value.
