With assistance from the Ministry of Textiles, through the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) held a conference in Ludhiana that focused on innovation, sustainability, and skill development in the technical textiles industry.
Leading businesspeople, government representatives, and industry experts attended the conference, which emphasised Ludhiana’s potential to develop into a major hub in the technical textiles ecosystem.
Ajay Gupta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles said that technical textiles are the way of the future for India’s textile sector. Although India’s export share in this area was only 16% at the time, he noted that specific efforts were being made to raise it considerably.
Incorporating contemporary technologies into Ludhiana’s textile sector will boost the area’s industrial standing and increase business prospects for regional entrepreneurs, he stated.
Along with outlining the government’s emphasis on particular fields like geo-textiles, medical textiles, and agro-textiles, Gupta urged stakeholders to investigate their enormous potential.
The National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) director, Ashok Malhotra, provided information on the field’s research and development. He underlined the significance of ongoing innovation while pointing out that India has already produced a large portion of the fundamental technologies needed for technological textiles.
Using zero-water-use and zero-discharge production facilities as examples, he further emphasised how the sector is shifting towards sustainability. According to Malhotra, Ludhiana would be essential to establishing India as a major global textile brand.
