The Legislative Assembly has been notified by Andhra Pradesh Minister for Handlooms and Textiles S. Savitha that a new textile policy will be unveiled shortly.
In response to a query from B. Jayanageswara Reddy, a TDP lawmaker from Yemmiganur, during Question Hour on 21st November, Savitha stated that the TDP government had decided to establish a textile park in Yemmiganur as part of the 2015 Independence Day celebrations in order to assist the community of weavers. Ninety acres had been set aside by the government for the park.
But like many other industries, the textile sector allegedly suffered during the previous YSRCP government. Nearly 14 acres of the textile park’s land had been set aside for housing projects by the YSRCP government, causing the beneficiaries to petition the court for a stay in order to preserve the property. According to her, Yemmiganur would undoubtedly see the establishment of the textile park, which would employ 5,000 people.
Textile parks would be established in Rayadurgam, Mylavaram, and Pamidi in addition to Yemmiganur. At Chirala, a textile park and a handloom park would be created.
Savitha noted that initiatives were also in progress to raise money for weavers’ welfare from the Central Government. Tools would be provided with 90 per cent subsidy. The Central Government has approved US $ 3.55 million to establish a huge textile park in Dharmavaram, she added, and the NDA administration would bring the weaving industry back to its former splendour.
