To promote their goods and hold exhibitions, Indore’s garment manufacturers have called for the construction of a convention hall especially for ready-made garments units. More than 1,500 small-scale producers of ready-made garments call the city home.
Indore is a centre for makers of ready-made garments with a focus on children’s clothing, said Ashish Nigam, President of the Readymade Textile Dealers Association, adding that there isn’t a convention centre where these units can effectively showcase their products, despite the fact that thousands of MSME units operate here and generate revenues in the thousands of crores. He stressed that a convention facility would give domestic units a useful venue to showcase their work and build their enterprises.
The association has also encouraged the State Government to create a cluster specifically for garment units in the area, in addition to calling for a convention centre. Industry participants think that establishing a ready-made cluster will greatly increase output and encourage value addition to their work.
