Pyoe Pin, a programme that promotes inclusive, accountable and fair governance in Myanmar, is initiating a sewing operator training project for all the people who want to work in the country’s garment industry.
The training project is being organised in association with the Department of Immigration and Population, Ministry of Labour. The programme will not charge any fee from the workers.
“The workers do not have to pay anything for the training programmes. Those aged between 18 and 40 years can join these sewing operator training sessions,” averred Ma Kyawe Phyo Phyo Aye, Project Coordinator, Pyoe Pin.
The objective of the training programme is to supply a highly skilled and efficient garment workforce for the garment industry across the country. Around 120 people will be trained under this two-month project.
The trainees will have to attend the sessions 5 days a week. In addition to providing lunch to the trainees, a daily stipend of K1800 will also be paid.
Once the two-month training gets completed, the trainees are required to work in a garment unit to gain industry experience. They will be paid during this period (four months of industry training) as well. The workers will then have to clear a Skill Test, to be conducted by National Skill Standards Authority (NSSA), in order to get a Certificate of Skilled Labour.
Ma Kyawe Aye added that there are also other training services apart from sewing and the Pyoe Pin will advise every worker to attend only those training programmes that match their skill set.
The Pyoe Pin aims to train nearly 5,570 workers in the next 28 months.
