Closure of factories continues in Jharkhand!
After the closure of Orient Craft, another name has come forward. It’s Thriveni Apparels and Textiles.
The company has wound up its operation at Sikri, Hazaribagh (96 kilometres from Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand).
The factory was offering employment to around 500 people.
The reasons for closing the factory are not yet clear as the company didn’t reply to Apparel Resources’ e-mail in this regard. As per the media reports, the factory is closed since last 3 weeks due to the villagers’ agitation.
Around 200 women who were working in this factory had given a memorandum to the local administration and requested to open the factory again.
It is pertinent to mention here that a subsidiary of Thriveni Apparels and Textiles, a subsidiary of Thriveni Earthmovers, initiated this factory almost 3 years ago. And it was highlighted at that time the project will benefit 17 villages and give employment to 1,000 people especially women.
The company had said at that time that the project is driven not with intent of making profit, but to develop the people of the area inclusively, socially and economically.
