The Sircilla Textile Park in Telangana has ceased operations, leaving around 1,000 workers unemployed. As of Sunday, 6th October, 70 units within the park stopped manufacturing due to mounting financial pressures. Unit owners cited their inability to pay power dues, lack of marketing facilities, and insufficient Government support as key reasons for the shutdown.
Annaldas Anil Kumar, President of the Sircilla Textile Park Cloth Manufacturers Association (STPCMA), stated that closing the units was the only option to prevent further financial losses. A team from the Ministry of Textiles visited the park to assess the situation following the shutdown announcement on 1st October.
Cloth valued at approximately Rs. 80 crore remains unsold due to a lack of marketing outlets. STPCMA director Gajula Sarath Kumar raised concerns over this unsold stock. Unit owners also pointed to high electricity costs in Telangana, noting that they pay Rs. 8 per unit, while manufacturers in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, pay only Rs. 2 per unit for electricity, placing them at a competitive disadvantage.
Workers have urged the Government to intervene and help restart manufacturing operations.
