Kavindra Mishra, CEO and Executive Director of Shoppers Stop, has been elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the Intercontinental Group of Department Stores (IGDS), the global network of department store retailers. He announced the news through his LinkedIn account, a prestigious achievement for Indian retail leadership at the global level.
Based in Switzerland, IGDS is a not-for-profit association established in 1946 by eight European department stores to promote mutual collaboration and innovation across national borders. Presently, the group assists 44 of the world’s top department store chains through knowledge sharing, retail benchmarking, and strategic conferences. It organises over 20 yearly events and continues to focus on enabling members to create unique, quality-based shopping experiences.
Mishra has more than two decades of experience in the retail sector and joins the IGDS board. An alumnus of IIM Bangalore, he has been in leadership positions with leading fashion and lifestyle brands such as Pepe Jeans, Benetton, ABFRL, Arvind, and as recently Managing Director at the House of Anita Dongre before his appointment at Shoppers Stop.
He took over as Executive Director and CEO of Shoppers Stop in September 2023, replacing his predecessor Venu Nair who had quit. At the time of his appointment, the company attributed to him reviving top segments like fashion, beauty, and store growth in the post-pandemic era.
Mishra’s appointment to IGDS’s leadership highlights India’s retail industry’s growing global impact and India’s rising influence in defining the future of department store retailing globally.
