A statutory body formed by the Indian Government, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has recently issued legal notices to two retail firms for ‘unauthorisedly’ and ‘fraudulently’ using the brand name, ‘Khadi’.
The two companies are Khadi Essentials and Khadi Global – both offering luxury beauty and cosmetic products through various online platforms.
KVIC’s legal notices state that the two firms are misleading consumers by using the brand name ‘Khadi’ while selling their products.
In the statement, the Government body has also asked Khadi Essentials and Khadi Global to stop selling or promoting their products under the brand name ‘Khadi’ with immediate effect.
KVIC has also asked the two companies to destroy all labels, product packaging, signboards and any publicity material with the two brand names.
Moreover, it has also been conveyed to the two firms to remove their digital presence on social media as well as cancel their website domain names (www.khadiessentials.com and www.khadiglobalstore.com).
According to the legal notices, Khadi Essentials and Khadi Global have been given 7 days to comply with the above-mentioned instructions, failing which, KVIC will initiate legal action against them.
