
UAE-based retail giant Lulu Group has revealed its plans to invest Rs. 3,500 crore in the southern Indian state of Telangana over the next five years. The company aims to establish its presence in the state with the inauguration of its first Lulu Mall and Hypermarket in Hyderabad, which is expected to take place in August.
The initial project in Hyderabad involves a Rs. 500 crore investment, which will transform the existing Manjeera Mall into Lulu Mall, covering an expansive area of 5 lakh square feet. The mall will provide an international shopping experience to the residents of Hyderabad and its neighbouring areas.
Alongside the mall, a mega Lulu Hypermarket will be established, showcasing more than 75 local and international brands. The facility will also feature a five-screen cinema with a seating capacity of 1,400, a multi-cuisine food court, and a children’s entertainment centre. This venture is projected to generate employment opportunities for over 2,000 individuals.
The Lulu Hypermarket will offer separate sections dedicated to fashion, lifestyle products, IT etc will be operational under the name ‘Lulu Fashion Store’ and Lulu Connect. Additionally, special sections will be created to promote and support Telangana’s local agricultural and trade sectors that aim to boost employment opportunities for the local youth.
Apart from the Lulu Mall and Hypermarket, the Lulu Group will invest an additional Rs. 200 crore in an export-oriented, modern integrated meat processing plant in Chengicherla. This facility is expected to have a daily production capacity of 60 tonnes and will provide employment to over 2,500 people. Commercial operations at the plant are slated to commence within the next 18 months.
Yusuff Ali emphasised that the Lulu Group’s investment in Telangana is the result of fruitful discussions and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Telangana government. The MoU was initiated during Telangana’s Industry Minister, KT Rama Rao’s visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos last year.
Hyderabad will become the sixth Indian city where the Lulu Group has a presence, following Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Coimbatore. With over 250 hypermarkets and 24 shopping malls across 22 countries, the Lulu Group has been rapidly expanding its footprint in India.
