
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), running under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), achieved considerable sales during International Yoga Day. They sold 1,09,022 yoga mats and 63,700 yoga attire adding up to Rs 8,67,87,380 to different Government departments via 55 Khadi institutions countrywide. Manoj Kumar, Chairman of KVIC, emphasised the impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support in making both yoga and Khadi fashionable across the country.
Kumar shared delight at the unparalled sales of Khadi yoga apparel and mats, highlighting the pride felt inside the Khadi community.
He also highlighted the health and environmental advantages of wearing Khadi yoga attire and using yoga mats, denoting their chemical-free production and negligible water usage.
On Yoga Day, KVIC’s Khadi Bhawan in Connaught Place, Delhi, produced 50,000 yoga mats and 50,000 yoga outfits to the Ministry of AYUSH, comprising 300 best quality mats. Furthermore, 25,000 Khadi yoga mats and clothes were sent to Srinagar, amid 10,000 sets dispersed locally for yoga sessions led by PM Modi.
Apart from the Ministry of AYUSH, KVIC supplied Khadi yoga attire and mats to different organizations, comprising the Morarji Desai National Yoga Institute, Defence Research and Development Organization, ONGC, National Ayurveda Institute Jaipur and Panchkula, and NALCO. Out of the entire sales of Rs 8,67,87,380, Khadi yoga clothes reported for Rs 3,86,65,900 and mats for Rs 4,81,21,480. Predicting demand, KVIC collaborated with 55 Khadi institutions across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi, hence providing added wages and employment prospects for spinners, weavers, and Khadi workers.
