The outdoor apparel company, Patagonia Inc. plans to extend its work wear apparel recycling program to recycle down-cycle or re-purpose all of its products once consumers have finished using them. This is a part of the company’s Common Threads program which has been extended to a number of stores following the success of its pilot launched at the end of last year. This would be done in the retailer’s stores in Portland, Seattle, Palo Alto and Chicago.
“Worn Wear started as a pilot program in our Portland, Oregon store in October 2012 and over the last year we’ve seen remarkable demand and interest,” informs Vickie Achee, Patagonia’s head of retail marketing. The aim of the program is to reduce, repair, reuse and recycle, and till date more than 60,000 customers have pledged to buy only what they need, repair what breaks, reuse and share what they no longer need and recycle the rest.
