
Reliance brands, the fashion retail arm of Reliance Industries, has been responsible for bringing some of the top luxury labels to India like Ermenegildo Zegna, Brooks Brothers and Bally.
Now the brand is looking to add another feather to its cap by expanding its luxury portfolio with Spanish streetwear brand Balenciaga.
Founded in 1895 by Cristobal Balenciaga in the Basque region of Spain, Balenciaga was acquired by Kering in 2001. Besides Balenciaga, other brands in Kering’s portfolio include Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Alexander McQueen, Ulysse Nardin, Boucheron and Brioni.
Prior to this, Reliance brought iconic American jeweller Tiffany & Co. to India and the current partnership with Balenciaga is to launch the brand at its upcoming Jio World Centre mall in Mumbai.
Balenciaga is already present in Capri, Cannes, Berlin, London, and countries like Japan, Greece, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia and the Chinese mainland.
Reliance Brands has been picking up pace in the market ever since 2017, when they acquired the 40 per cent stake of L Catterton Asia in its direct competitor Genesis Luxury.
