With an aim to boosting its textile industry in Odisha, India, the state government is planning to establish an integrated textile park in Bhadrak district.
Proposed to be built with an investment of Rs 70 crore, the park will be developed over 112 acres of land in the district, according to the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO), the state government’s land acquisition arm.
“The proposed park will be developed over 112 acres of land in Bhadrak district. We have sent a detailed project report to the textile ministry to grant funds under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP),” an Idco official has reportedly stated. Idco had asked for grant of Rs 21 crore from the Centre, under the scheme for major infrastructure development, for the purpose.
Once set up, this proposed park is expected to accommodate about 22 apparel manufacturing units.
The scheme, launched in 2005, is meant to encourage private investments and generate employment in the state’s textile sector by means of world class infrastructure for common facilities like roads, water supply treatment and distribution network, power generation and distribution network, effluent collection treatment and disposal system, first aid centre, among others.
As per the scheme, the cost of this project will be borne basically by the ministry through a mix of equity or grant. Central support will be limited to 40 per cent of the project cost, with a maximum ceiling of Rs 40 crore for industrial parks.
This scheme is meant for industrial clusters with high growth potential, requiring strategic interventions by means of providing world-class infrastructure support.
Last year, Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik had announced setting up two integrated textile parks in Cuttack and Bhadrak districts.
