The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), located in Hyderabad, has opened a laboratory specifically designed for testing speciality textile items.
BIS Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari emphasised the laboratory’s critical role in bolstering the textile industry’s quality ecosystem with cutting-edge testing facilities. “A significant step in bolstering the country’s quality infrastructure is the establishment of this specialised textiles testing laboratory in Hyderabad,” he said.
He mentioned that the new facility will be crucial in implementing the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) set by the Government of India, ensuring that textile products adhere to the highest national standards. He also noted that testing facilities for yarn will soon be available in the lab, further enhancing its capabilities.
Tiwari not only opened the lab but also introduced the universal testing machine (UTM) for textile testing, a flexible instrument for evaluating the longevity and quality of different textile items.
The significance of using ISI-marked items, which ensure adherence to BIS standards and guarantee safety, dependability, and durability, was emphasised by officials attending the ceremony.
