Huntsman India, a global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals, has commissioned a 180 kilowatts (kW) rooftop solar facility at its state-of-the-art polyurethanes manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune as part of the company’s commitment towards building a sustainable and low-carbon economy to support carbon neutrality.
Chakan is a key manufacturing base for Huntsman globally and one of the largest production sites of the company in India.
The company informed in a press release that the solar facility is expected to generate 3,00,000 kW hour of power annually, about 60 percent of the plant’s total energy requirement.
The system is connected with the State-Government run power grid via net metering, which ensures a balanced load and also feeds surplus power back into the grid.
This plant will be used to meet almost entire day’s power requirements.
Rahul Tikoo, MD, India Subcontinent, Huntsman International (India), said “We are set to save 35 per cent of energy cost with the installation of the solar facility. The project has been implemented with full adherence to environment, health and safety norms and commissioned in record four months. It is a critical milestone for us at Huntsman to achieve a sustainable energy-led future and walk the path of a green and clean environment.”
The company generated approximately US $ 8.5 billion in 2021.
It operates more than 70 manufacturing, R&D and operations facilities in approximately 30 countries and employs approximately 9,000 associates within our four distinct business divisions.
