With the growing awareness and demand for organic and sustainable apparel products, more and more companies are joining the bandwagon by coming up with such initiatives that not just make them different but also increase market opportunities for the company.
Ahmedabad-based CA Patel Textiles, one of the leading apparel and home furnishing manufacturers churning out a turnover of US $ 57 million, has started offering mens shirts made by fabrics like banana, eucalyptus, soybean, rose petal, milk, Aloe Vera and corn fabrics. All these fabrics are certified and 100 per cent organic.
Yash Patel, Director of the company told Apparel Resources, “Many European buyers are interested in such organic and new type of fabrics. We started these fabrics from the last 6 months.”
Patel further informed that expense in the area was an issue, especially at the initial level, as quantities were very small. “A lot of companies are trying to develop garments from such fabrics, so in next few years there will be a lot of development in the same. We are trying to keep ourselves ahead to offer these products,” added Patel.

“Sourcing of such fabric is not much difficult as we are in constant touch with 3 such suppliers from Punjab and Delhi. There are several price range in such fabrics so we are hopeful that costing will match to the buyers’ bracket,” informed Mukta, Merchandising Manager of the company.
Delhi-based HSPS Textile (Harpar Group), a respected textile company offering a large variety of fabrics, also deals in such innovative fabric. “From last few years demand of banana, soybean and corn fabrics has increased in a good way. Not only exporters or designers, even companies producing garments for the domestic market are also asking for these fabrics,” informed Shilpi from marketing department of the company.
