As part of its CSR efforts under Myntra Cares, Myntra, one of India’s top fashion and lifestyle platforms, has started two significant projects: “Myntra Cupboard of Care” and “Project Restyle,” in partnership with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Saahas Zero Waste. These initiatives, which have been introduced in Bengaluru, are intended to encourage a circular economy in the fashion and textile sector and prolong the life cycle of clothing through reuse, recycling, and upcycling.
The Myntra Cupboard of Care is a collection of well-thought-out, weatherproof donation and pickup kiosks that have been placed outside of a few of Bengaluru’s most significant tech parks. The program, which is being carried out in collaboration with BBMP and Saahas Zero Waste, allows anyone to donate their gently used clothing, and those in need to retrieve it. Saahas’ textile recovery centre will receive unclaimed items so they can be upcycled into new goods.
Project Restyle, which intends to interact with gated residential communities throughout Bengaluru, complements the public-facing kiosks. Twenty residential buildings will have branded collecting bins to encourage clothing donations. Saahas Zero Waste will separate the gathered clothing into several classes before sending it to the textile recovery centre for upcycling, recycling, or reuse. Additionally, this technique will give underprivileged populations jobs and a means of subsistence.
According to Govindraj MK, CHRO of Myntra, Myntra is making modest but significant progress in advancing the circular economy in the fashion and textile sector with programs like Project Restyle and the Cupboard of Care. Myntra wants to keep more clothing in use for longer while also promoting the development of new livelihood options by facilitating the reuse, recycling, and upcycling of clothing and collaborating closely with communities and partners like BBMP and Saahas Zero Waste.
Circularity in textiles involves infrastructure, awareness, and inclusive value chains, according to Shobha Raghavan, CEO of Saahas Zero Waste. Through this collaboration with Myntra, livelihood creation, the promotion of circular fashion, and responsible consumerism are all driving quantifiable impact. By incorporating traceability and openness into these initiatives, a reproducible model is being created that other communities can use.
