
There are reports that Tamil Nadu’s labour-intensive industries which are are heavily dependent on migrant labourers from the north and north-eastern states are having a hard time following the rumours of an attack on workers from Bihar.
The Tamil Nadu police have launched a helpline to reach out to migrant workers who are in distress.

M K Stalin, Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu assured protection to migrant workers amid rumours of attacks on them. Various industry bodies on Saturday here requested him to telecast messages in Hindi to allay fears of the labourers coming from Hindi-speaking region to the state
He warned against those spreading rumours and fake news and termed them as ‘anti-Indians’.
The Tamil Nadu CM reassured his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar that all migrant workers are safe in the state and he asserted that swift action would be taken against rumour-mongers spreading panic.
Dr A Sakthivel, Founder, Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) assured the migrant labourers that the exporters are with them and that they should not be concerned about the situation. He also stated that he and his team will provide all types of assistance to migrant workers.
He said that mostly all the workers who are working in Tirupur are happy. This WhatsApp is one thing spoiling the whole society, fake messages being spread. Some people are always interested in disturbing people, these people should be warned and arrested, he added.
KM Subramaniam, President, TEA has said that work has not been disrupted due to recent development, we have assured the workers their safety.
