The garment industry in Indore, a hub for more than 1,000 small- and large-scale manufacturers, has recorded a 20% increase in orders for the festive season, driven by new markets such as Bihar, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. The festive demand has bolstered the order books of local garment manufacturers, who expect festive business to grow by over 20% compared to last year.
Local manufacturers reported receiving orders from additional markets in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab during this festive season, while Southern India remains a prominent market for garments made in Indore. Ashish Nigam, president of the Readymade Textile Dealers Association, noted that many new markets have opened up for the industry, raising expectations of a much better festive season. He added that while Southern markets remain their traditional stronghold, the recently organised fair in Indore has helped secure orders from several new markets.
A garment fair was organised in July by the Indore Ready-made Garment Manufacturers and Sellers Association, where more than 200 manufacturers from the city showcased their designs to over 20,000 wholesale and retail sellers from across India. The association stated that most manufacturers have increased production by at least 15 per cent to meet heightened demand.
Festivals are a key period when garment sales peak and manufacturers have already begun dispatching ready garments to retailers and wholesalers. Another garment manufacturer, Kailash Prasad, mentioned that the season had started on a positive note with strong orders, adding that this year they would be dispatching garments to Bihar following orders received during the July fair.
