India’s apparel exports to the EU surged by 9.16 per cent, reaching US $ 3.67 billion in the January to October 2024 period. This figure accounts for 27.92 per cent of India’s total apparel export revenue this year, up from 27.57 per cent in the same period of the previous year.
An analysis by the Apparel Resources team identified the top five EU destinations for Indian apparel exports: Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, France and Italy.
India’s apparel shipments to Germany were valued at US $ 698.52 million, reflecting a 4.52 per cent Y-o-Y increase. Exports to the Netherlands, Spain, France, and Italy amounted to US $ 623.65 million (up 30.34 per cent), US $ 580.74 million (up 14.63 per cent), US $ 487.44 million (down 9.97 per cent), and US $ 288.95 million (up 3.48 per cent), respectively.
Notably, these five destinations contributed approximately 73 per cent of India’s total apparel exports to the EU this year, slightly lower than the 73.61 per cent recorded during the same period last year.
This trend indicates that Indian apparel manufacturers are increasingly exploring other promising EU markets, where exports have shown significant growth. These emerging markets include Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Austria and Romania, all of which recorded double-digit growth this year.
