Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged to focus more on handloom and handicraft products.
While appreciating products like Madhubani art themed masks, bamboo products from the Northeast, he said that the more the world will know about the diversity in Indian handloom and handicraft products, the more the weavers will be benefitting.
He was addressing his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
The Prime Minister appreciated the women’s Self-Help group for making masks with Madhubani painting during the pandemic. These groups are not only creating awareness about their tradition, but also creating employment through such initiatives.
It is pertinent to mention here that to promote Handloom products, the Government celebrates National Handloom Day on 7 August. The PM also urged to celebrate the day and promote handloom.
The export of handloom products from India was valued at US $ 343.69 million in FY19. To promote the use of handloom and export of the same, the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC) is also actively working.
India Handloom Brand is also an initiative of the Ministry of Textiles for branding of high quality handloom products from different parts of India.
