All of our paths are cluttered with debris, obstacles, unknowns, and very sharp curves, but this is life, and we must prevail, and on a planned step by step approach move forward. Where does the responsibility of success belong…
To the governments of all types to allow or disallow success of the few or uplift of the masses OR Is it the self responsibility of the private sector to create, and move forward for individual success, and succeed in helping the economy around them grow?
I do not have the answer, but I will say it is the responsibility of both government, and the private sector to work together, to be able to create a strong standard of living, and educating its people, so that a great society can exist and continually grow.
In the USA, our two parties in the election of our leaders including the President of the United States of America, is just that, is it the philosophy of the political State to give the people all they need to maintain an acceptable standard of living, or is it for the government to give to the private sector the tools to grow and create wealth and bring along its workers to higher standards.
In our present Capitalistic form of economy it takes purchasing power of the people to create growth, and when the people do not have expendable income to purchase product, you then have a decrease in growth and a standard of living that shrinks and does not grow.
Which comes first – like the classic dilemma – “Which comes first the Chicken or the Egg?”.
Now that cotton has somewhat stabilized, the India apparel manufacturers should seriously be going after this area of business, but it does not seem to be happening this way. Pakistan as you know is having huge issues with the USA and many US buyers/importers are shying away from Pakistan, as trade could be threatened at any time.
India should be going after this area of political unrest, and capture the cotton business from Pakistan, so far I have not seen any efforts in this area of promoting India as the place to go for buying cotton garments.
China even with its higher costs, late deliveries, and untrained employees that are now in the interior of China are still making efforts to solicit USA business. Sri Lanka is still growing in the export arena, as well as Vietnam. Many Chinese have taken over or are building in the Africa, AGOA treaty countries so they can ship into the USA duty-free.
The other area of competition is the Central America, and some South American duty-free countries shipping into the USA.
Now is not the time for “Status Quo”; now is the time to capture the US or EU importer, by being extremely competitive in pricing into these markets, so you can grow and keep a steady flow.
The Millions of Dozens needed in the T-shirt market is so massive, that this could be the place to take business from other countries mentioned above.
Bangladesh has become a very large player in this arena in a very short time, using Indian cotton.
I know you are going to say labor is cheaper in Bangladesh, and I say not necessarily true, as the freight cost from India into Bangladesh, turn time, will balance the labor cost difference.
The world economy will be coming back, slower than planned, and many obstacles in the road, but these are the times to capture the business, and hold onto it, so when the good times come you will be able to enjoy the benefits.
The long hot summer is almost here, and it seems there is a little light showing at the END of TUNNEL.
