The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) stated that it will “expose the darker and exploitative side” of contemporary retail during a conference scheduled for Tuesday, 22nd April. In collaboration with the All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF) and the All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA), the Constitution Club will host the national conference, which is headlined Cruel Face of Quick Commerce and E-Commerce.
Trade leaders, policy experts, economists, and stakeholders from all over the nation will gather at this conference, according to CAIT, to draw attention to the unethical behaviours and long-term risks that digital commerce platforms pose to India’s traditional retail environment.
Quick commerce and e-commerce, which were once hailed as revolutionary developments, are now exposing its harsh underbelly, according to a statement from CAIT. These include predatory pricing, violations of FDI regulations, erosion of seller and consumer rights, and the marginalisation of small business owners and traders.
CAIT claims that the unchecked expansion of these platforms is endangering the country’s socioeconomic fabric in addition to hurting trade.
The conclave will address a number of important issues, such as the systematic violations of FDI rules and policy frameworks, the manipulation of consumer behaviour through deep discounting, the marginalisation and displacement of small traders and retailers, the exploitative working conditions for quick commerce delivery personnel, and more.
A ‘Policy Resolution’ calling for robust regulatory protections to preserve India’s traditional trade, guarantee fair competition in the market, and preserve the dignity, physical health, and mental well-being of the workers involved in the quick commerce ecosystem will be adopted at the end of the conclave.
