The Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Tamil Nadu conducted a joint press conference in Tiruppur on Tuesday to announce the upcoming Tamil Nadu-Taiwan Technical Textile Partnership Summit, which will take place in Coimbatore.
Leaders in the industry, technical specialists, legislators, and suppliers—especially from Taiwan—will be gathered to discuss prospects and promote innovation in MMF and technological textiles in Tamil Nadu.
The two-day event will include a series of technical sessions on textile processing, as well as high-level impact B2B discussions and a product demonstration.
Speaking about the significance of this occasion, TEA Joint Secretary Kumar Duraiswamy stated that the globe is searching for alternative nations to lessen its reliance on China for textiles. Their top choice is India.
He noted that Taiwan has made significant investments in Tamil Nadu, stating that in December 2024, they made a significant investment in non-leather footwear.
He concluded by saying that Taiwan is renowned for its advanced research in MMF (Man-Made Fibre) garment manufacturing and currently holds a strong position in the global market. If Taiwanese companies commence operations in Tamil Nadu and set up factories in the region, it would significantly boost trade opportunities, which could be effectively leveraged by local stakeholders.
Taiwan is eager to establish economic ties with Tamil Nadu and other Indian states, according to G.R. Gopikumar, Convener of the Textile Panel, CII-Tamil Nadu.
This was evident when Taiwan made successful investments in the footwear and electronics sectors in Tamil Nadu. Building on that success, it was felt that seeking their expert guidance could help the textile sector thrive as well. CII, TEA, and the government are actively engaging with Taiwan on this front, he stated.
According to Gopikumar, the government-and industry-funded Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI) has greatly aided the Taiwanese textile industry by developing novel and inventive goods. In order to improve Tamil Nadu’s textile landscape, efforts are underway to establish partnerships with TTRI.
Taiwan leads the globe in outdoor materials and sportswear. They hold the biggest market share, and Taiwan, Indonesia, and Cambodia are the main sourcing locations for global customers, he concluded.
